She is looking forward to the bigger space that will allow parents to work on costumes and have a comfortable area to meet while waiting for their students in class like the North Avenue location provided. “The dancers are going to have so much space it’s just going to be great,” said Denise Greenfelder, of Navarre, whose daughter, Kayla, 15, has taken classes at Studio 136 for seven years. “I’m really excited to be in here and to decorate it,” she said earlier this week, as she walked through the rooms and surveyed the remodeling.ĭance parents echo Beebe’s excitement over the new building. Getting blueprints, obtaining permits and working with utility companies has taken time. “I don’t want to disappoint our students and their families,” she said. She said she is looking forward to finishing up the dance school year in the new building, and then begin taking registrations for the 2016/2017 dance season at the new location. Just like dancing, timing is everything, and Beebe has her heart set on moving in around April. ![]() The 35-year-old bought the building from her father, Grant “Fuzzy” Kowell, who has helped with blueprints and leading construction of the project. Granted, Beebe hasn’t been to every dance school in the state, but she figures her center has to be among the biggest in Ohio. “I’m most excited we’ll be able to dance on the size of a standard stage,” she said. It’s common to hear dance teachers tell students that when they get out of the classroom and perform on stage they’ll have to spread themselves out more on stage. When students do across-the-floor exercises they can feel free to make those grand-jetes as grand as they would like. The largest of the three studios measures 64 by 35 feet. The new dance center will have three studios, offices, locker rooms, dance supply store - and room for even a fourth studio. ![]() Owner and instructor Keely Beebe said she can hardly wait to start teaching classes in the new building. Studio 136 Dance Center is moving this spring to its third location, 136 23rd St. A former Big Lots store is being renovated, and in just a few months will be filled with dancers of all ages pirouetting, leaping, and shuffling off to Buffalo.
